Product Description

Meet and Feed the Otters
  --  Only 1 ticket remains.
Tentative Date: Saturday May 1, 2021

Because otters, like all mustelids, are at high risk for contracting COVID-10, and because this tour puts our guests in close proximity to our otters, the date for this tour will not be confirmed until May 2021. If we cancel or postpone this tour for any reason, buyers have the option of receiving a full refund or of participating in a tour scheduled on a later date.

Special Procedures: To ensure our guests, staff, and animals' safety, the Zoo has established COVID-19 protocols that are outlined in the "Tour Requirements" section below.  Protocols require everyone to cover their nose and mouth with a mask for the duration of a tour. Individuals who cannot wear masks for medical or other reasons may not participate in this tour until our medical advisors conclude that face coverings are no longer needed.

Tour Description: The otter tour begins at 11 a.m. at the Bobcat habitat in the Zoo’s Streamside habitat cluster. Streamside is located in the North American continental region, near the Rock Coast complex. This tour lasts about one hour, and takes guests behind the scenes to meet some of the animals that inhabit the Zoo's Streamside exhibit. The tour will surprise you with the number of animals that make their home in this building, and the caretakers usually provide a opportunity to touch a bug, an amphibian, or a reptile if you are up to it. At the end of your tour, you will meet and have a chance to feed the Zoo's popular otter pair.

Tour Pricing: $104.25 each for Zoo Society members; $119.25 each for non-members

. Please note that VIP passes do not cover admission fees to enter the North Carolina Zoo. Tour-goers who are not members of the North Carolina Zoo Society or a reciprocating institution, must pay full admission prices to enter the Zoo.

Tour Requirements: Unfortunately, this behind-the-scene area is not ADA accessible. Children must be at least 5 years old to attend this tour, and a paying adult must accompany children younger than 16.
Group size is limited to 8 people.

In response to COVID-19, the Zoo requires participants to cover their noses and mouths with a mask for the duration of the tour. In situations where the staff or the animals are particularly vulnerable to infection, the Zoo may also require participants to wear latex gloves when offering food to an animal. The Zoo Society will provide these gloves where they are needed.

  •  Society tour guides will advise guests about where to stand to practice social distancing. Guides will also provide hand sanitizer, gloves, and extra masks to guests who need them.

  • Guides  will carry disinfected cans of water to offer to guests who request a drink.

  • Upon arrival,

guests will receive a VIP silicon ID bracelet that will serve as a ticket and as a take-home gift.

  • All of these procedures are subject to change if the pandemic's ever-evolving nature makes it necessary to do so. Our first concern will always be to keep you, our guests, safe, and protect our staff and animals' well-being. Thank you for joining us behind the scenes!
