Rare Birds in Training
Tour Date: Saturday, May 30, 2020
Pricing $94.25 each for Society members
$109.25 each for non-members
Tour Logistics: This behind-the-scenes peak at the Zoo's rare bird propagation area begins at the Stedman Education Center at 10 a.m. Participants ride with a Society Tour guide to a behind the scenes area where the Zoo houses rare (and not so rare) birds that it hopes to breed and where the caretakers train and house many of the Zoo's ambassador birds. Animal caretakers train ambassador birds to participate in educational programs that are presented inside the Park. Do not be surprised if some of our tour goers are given the opportunity to interact with one of these ambassadors during a training session.
A wonderful opportunity to see how the caretakers interact with the birds and learn about the Zoo's efforts to breeding rare and endangered bird species. This tour lasts about an hour and ends when tour goers are driven to the RJ Reynolds Forest Aviary.
Tour Requirements: This program is ADA accessible. Children must be at least 10 years-old to attend this tour, and children younger than 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult. Group size is limited to 10 people.
