Lunch and Learn with the Zoo Curator of Birds
Spend an hour or so talking with the Curator that oversees the management of the Zoo's Birds. This Curator is responsible for husbandry decisions regarding these animals and works extensively with other zoo professionals across North America to make critical decisions about the placement, breeding, and sustainability of the North American zoo populations of these species. This Curator has also participates in several field programs working to protect and restore wild populations of endangered bird species. Her field work has taken her to the Aleutian, Hawaiian, and Marianas islands.
Learn and Learn programs are scheduled during the regular workweek (Monday - Friday) and are suitable for adults and for young people at least 16 years old. To secure this Lunch and Learn experience with the Zoo's Curator of Birds, please list three dates when you can be available for this experience. We will forward your requests on the Curator of Birds and will email you with logistic and other information once she has chosen a date that fits with her schedule.
The $325 fee covers Zoo admission and lunch for two people and includes a $300 tax-deductible donation to the North Carolina Zoological Society, the private 501(c)3 non-profit that raises funds for the North Carolina Zoo. The proceeds from this Lunch and Learn encounter will support the most pressing needs of the Zoo's Animal Section. Among other things, these needs may include purchasing materials for animal enrichment, funding keeper training opportunities, or supporting research or activities that promote animal well-being.
